It is widely known that rare earth ion containing materials have attracted much attention to active photonics materials. The host glass materials are expected to process minimal absorption coefficients within the wavelength region of interest, compatibility with waveguide, fabrication processes and for the majority of application with low nonradiative decay rates and high radiative emission rates.
