To obtain evidence of the existence of Ce3+at Ba sites in BaTiO<inf>3</inf>, the nominal (Ba<inf>1-x</inf>Ce<inf>x</inf>)Ti<inf>1-x/4</inf>O<inf>3</inf>(BCT) and Ba(Ti<inf>1-x</inf>Ce<inf>x</inf>)O<inf>3</inf>(BTC) ceramics prepared under different conditions were investigated by Raman spectroscopy. A band at {\sim}840 cm-1that appears in all BCT samples is evidence of the existence of Ce3+at Ba sites in the BaTiO<inf>3</inf>lattice. For BTC, Raman scattering experiments give convincing evidence that a small number of Ce ions inevitably enter Ba sites as Ce3+, which can be expressed by (Ba,Ce<inf>\delta</inf>)(Ti,Ce<inf>x-\delta</inf>)O<inf>3</inf>, where \delta \approx 2 \textperthousand.
