An adjacent track servo (ATS) technology for recording to an optical disk without track information is expected to produce optical disks with lower cost. The main problem of the ATS system is its stability. Generally, ATS systems become stable with a feed-forward controller. However, we found that the tracking property of the ATS system with feed-forward controller is not enough to suppress tracking errors of optical disk drives. We propose another feed-forward controller to obtain a faster response, and by simulation, we show that the controller keeps tracking errors small enough.
