Three different precursors, i.e., nitrate, chloride, and carbonate for the Ca and Mg, were used to see the effect on the morphological and the luminous properties of CaMgSi2O6:Eu blue phosphor particles when they were prepared by spray pyrolysis. It was found that using the chloride precursor for both Ca and Mg elements makes it possible to obtain the spherical morphology, whereas other combination in the precursors produced agglomerated irregular shape. The photoluminescence under vacuum ultraviolet (VUV; 147 nm) excitation also strongly depended on the precursor type of each Ca and Mg element. The highest intensity was achieved when the chloride precursor was used. More details about the effect of the precursor type on the morphology and the photoluminescence were discussed.
