We studied an optimized write strategy for a $4\times$ speed phase-change Blu-ray disc system for further practical implementation. This was performed by simulation using three-dimensional alternating directional implicit thermal analysis and crystallization modeling. We evaluated and confirmed this approach by implementing it in $2\times$ recording with commercially available 23 GB discs.
