Experimental Analysis of the Improved Emission Properties of Glassy $\beta$-eucryptite Ion Source

In this paper we describe an experiment in which a tenfold increase on the Li+ emission of $\beta$-eucryptite compound was obtained after its transformation from pasty to glassy form. Detailed procedure for preparation of this glassy compound is also described. The analysis of the crystal structure of both loads was carried out by X-ray diffraction, resulting in the determination of a greater volume for the unit cell of the glassy ion source with the observation of the changed axial ratios of the crystallographic directions $a$ and $c$. The modified parameters of the unit cell can explain the better ion emission properties of the glassy compound.
