We studied a simple and easy way to fabricate gold electrodes on various insulating substrates through the direct photochemical lithography of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of alkanethiols (hexadecanethiol: HDT, octadecanethiol: ODT, pentaerythritol-tetrakis(3-mercaptopropionate): PTMP) on gold films. A SAM of PTMP was used as a resistor for positive ($+$) lithography. An array of gold islands, $33\times 33$ μm, could be extended up to the centimeter scale.
