It is found from the equation of motion of a massive particle in a general noninertial frame that inertial forces on the particle can be regarded equivalently as the electromagnetic Lorentz force. Here the vector potential corresponds to the local velocity of the noninertially moving frame and the scalar potential to the local kinetic energy of the frame. The above consideration is applied to a rotating system with time-dependent angular velocity. As another application, on regarding a locally disturbed medium which carries an elastic wave as a noninertial frame, we derive Maxwell-like equations for the fields.
