Recently we have studied on syntheses and structure of new pyrazine ligands (L) and their Pd(II) complexes under an idea that pyrazines with recognition sites form one-dimensional metal complexes to build up a highly functionalized supramolecular complex. Herein we report preparation of new 2,5-disubstituted pyrazine ligands bearing azacrown rings 1 or malonate units 2 and their Pd(II) complexes 3-5. And the structure of obtained Pd(II) complexes are discussed. These pyrazine ligands were prepared by the reaction of 2,5-bis(chloromethyl)pyrazine with 1-aza-18-crown-6-ether or diethyl malonate at the presence of K<SUB>2</SUB>CO<SUB>3</SUB>. The formation of their Pd(II) complexes was accomplished by ligand-exchange reaction of Pd(PhCN)<SUB>2</SUB>Cl<SUB>2</SUB> with yielded pyrazine ligands. IR spectroscopic study on Pd(II) complex of 1 (3) revealed that the complex took <I>cis-</I>PdL<SUB>2</SUB>Cl<SUB>2</SUB> configuration. On the other hand, two types of Pd(II) complexes of 2, yellow needles 4 in CH<SUB>2</SUB>Cl<SUB>2</SUB> and pale yellow powder 5 in acetone, were obtained. The complex 4 had <I>trans-</I>PdL<SUB>2</SUB>Cl<SUB>2</SUB> structure, which was elucidated by X-ray crystallographic analysis. IR spectroscopic study and elemental analytical data of 5, which agreed well with the composition of Pd : L = 1 : 1, suggested strongly that the complex took one-dimensional <I>trans-</I>configuration.
