Estimation of Recyclable Wastes Discharge System in C City

In waste management, 3R is the most preferential policy in worldwide. Even though the estimation of waste mass flow is very important for establishing a circulated society of material, it is almost difficult to find out the amount of recyclable resources from waste mass flow because of their various discharge system. In Korea, the amount of wastes treated at incineration plant or disposed in landfill site was well known. Recyclable wastes, however, discharged into public facilities and private sectors due to the kind of resources and generation sources. Most of public facilities including incineration plant and landfill can identify the amount of waste mass flow, but the amount of recyclable wastes collected by private sectors or secondhand dealers cannot be estimated. The economic value of recyclable wastes is depended upon the necessity and the foreign exchange rate, so they become useless and then should be disposed if their value is dropped. The amount of recyclable wastes should be estimated not only to establish a circulated society of material, but also to improve waste management system. In this study, the amount of recyclable wastes of C city in Korea was estimated and cross-checked based on their discharge system analysis and a questionnaire survey for residents.
