The auther studied on the effects of benzene 0.15cc/kg on the EEG in cerebral neocortex, hippocampus and amygdala of intakt rabbits.
The results obtained as followed.
1) The arousal grade of EEG in neocortex, hippocampus and amygdala increases by administration of benzene. Spontaneous spindle burst in neocrtex disappeares completely.
2) The sleep pattern on the neocortex followed administration of pentobarbi tal changes to the arousal pattern by aditional administration of benzene but the righting reflex does not recover.
3) The thresholds of the arousal reaction on each activating systems for neo-, paleoand archi-cortex, including on the neocortical recuiting response, does not change after the administration of benzene.
4) The increa sing of the arousal grade of EEG in neocortex, hippocampus and amygdala followed the administration of benzene may be due to the inhibitory of the medial reticular formation.
