Photographs often evoke our memories of events or places in the past. The study aims to consider some way of communication by the married couples when they are appreciating local historical photographs. This report shows the result of an analysis of the scene where a married couple is appreciating a local photo book. The approach is an interaction analysis of data which was taken by a video camera.This report focus on their roles obtained through conversation. As a result, the husband took a role of explaining the past, as a provider of knowledge. On the other hand, his wife took a role of hearing what he talked with referring to the present or her own experience, as a hearer. However, it was not simply the relationship of the active and the passive. They were frequently asking, confirming, and agreeing knowledge each other in the conversation. In the exchange, they were mutually casting themselves as a provider of knowledge or a hearer.
