• We always witness the changing roles and functions of existing communication tools, due to an introduction of new modes of communication. Interestingly, sometimes, "old" technologies are rediscovered and redefined in our day-to-day communication processes. This paper suggests that message boards, once regularly used in train stations, gained a new "place" within the context of our communicative practices. Our preliminary findings suggest that uses and understandings about the Internet, and other computer-mediated-communication may affect, to some extent, the ways in which we reconstruct the use of message boards. To anchor our discussions, we report on our field research on a message board in Shimokitazawa area.
