Heat transfer coefficients between three kinds of nitrate salts and quenched cast iron specimen were obtained for some variable conditions. The relation between heat transfer coefficients and conditions of heat treatment was expressed as the relation between Nusselt number and Grashof number, which is available to estimate the heat transfer coeffcient for austempering of cast iron. Finite element method was applied to the heat transfer analysis whence the changes in heat transfer coefficient with time was considered. Since the analysis revealed the inner cooling curve of the cast iron accurately, it could be used to predict the structure of ADI.
