A new process for vibrational solidification in cast iron is investigated on the basis of the evaporative pattern casting under a reduced pressure state, which has attracted the attention recently. That is to say, the required quantity of a spheroidizing agent is embedded directly into a expanded polystyrene as a evaporative pattern and termed it "In-pattern Process". A untreated melt is poured while adding a vibration to the molding box into this expanded polystyrene by ordinary evaporative pattern casting under a reduced pressure state. As a result, sound spheroidal graphite cast iron castings is obtained and the usefulness of this method is found. Furthermore, the sound cast irons are obtained by selecting a proper vibration condition. This process is possible to be applied widely for the production of the castings. As compared with the conventional vibration casting process, this process a usefulness excellent economically and technically to comercialization.
