A Camshaft made of cast iron was hardening a part, was necessitated wear resistance using chiller. But, in case, a camshaft casted in foundry, band of graphite structure formed in which clear chill zone requisd by chiller. Exfoliation of solidification from this graphite formation caused defect. This study on formation of graphite sturucture, mark that the graphite structure was connected surface fold or cold chut and special chill test. This result obtained are as follows. As poured discontinuous melt, a boundary of solidification shell of clear chill zone and later solidification part. This research confirmed that graphite structure formed near the boundary of solidification shell in clear chill zone.
