Apparent thermal properties and thermal conductivity of dry sand molds and furan resin bonded sand molds were obtained by pouring method using steel. Apparent thermal diffusivity, apparent thermal conductivity and apparent heat diffusivity of the dry sand molds of which bulk density were less than 1.5 g/cm3, were larger than those of the furan resin bonded sand molds for the same bulk density. The apparent thermal conductivity and the apparent heat diffusivity of the molds increased with the bulk density. The apparent thermal properties obtained with steel were much larger than those with aluminum, and were a little larger than those with cast iron. Furthermore, the thermal conductivity decreased on heating up to ahout 600°C. and then increased above this temperature. The rate of increase in the dry sand molds beyond 1,000°C was larger than that of the furan resin bonded sand molds.
