The temperature distribution in cast irons patched with solid-state bonding with phase transformation is calculated numerically according to the finite difference method, and is compared with the microstructure in bonded region. The calculated temperature distribution coincide with the transformed structure, and is considerably affected by shape and size of the patching metal and the electrode. The optimum temperature distribution for good bonding is obtained when the ratio of a radius to a prominent height of the patching metal is about 0.2-0.3.
