Relations between coatng condition of various refractories bound by sodium silicate and some properties of the coating layer obtained by spraying on the heated metal mold were studed. And the durability of the coating was meausred in the pouring test. The results obtained were as follows : 1) The properties of the coating on the metal mold were varied by the condition such as preheating temperature and heat capacity of the metal mold. 2) Apparent density and abrasion resistance of the coating layer on the metal mold increased with the thickness of it. 3) For estimate the properties of the coating layer, the sand falling friction test was recommended. 4) The degree of the durability of the coating in the pouring test was depened on the roughness of the metal mold surface. The coarser was the refractory as coating, the rougher surface of the metal mold was preferable.
