Magnesium treated spheroidal graphite cast iron, prepared in a 500kg high frequency electric furnace, has been heat treated. Various tests have been made on the sample, such as hardness test, impact test, tensile test and microscopic test all at room temperature, also, at high temperature, hardness test and wear test have been made. Spheroidal graphite cast iron and ordinary cast iron, prepared in small oil furnace have been compared, The results are as follows: (1) Spheroidal graphite cast iron, prepared in high frequency electric furnace, has the highest hardness in oil quenching. The hardness decreases as the tempering temperature increaser, and the annealed sample shows less hardness. (2) Hardness at the temperetures up to 800°C decreases as the temperature in testing increaser. (3) Spheroidal graphite cast iron, prepared in high frequency electric furnace, shows good wear resistance between the room temperature and 600°C, and shows poorer wear resistance when oil quenched, and decreases as the tempering temperature goes up. The wear resistance of sample, prepared in oil furnace, is poorer then that of the sample given above. The ordinary cast iron shows still poorer wear resistance. (4) As a whole, the spheroidal graphite cast iron is better than the sample prepared in oil furnace and the ordinary cast iron shows the poorest qualities of the three.
