This report was made to obtain the variation of effluent gas and its melting rate by utilizing various of coke, from which, its influences were analized. At the same time, the variation of combustion in the furnace has been to some extent studied ; the results of which are as follows : 1) The variation of effluent gas differs depending on the kind of coke utilized, whereas the relationship between CO2 and gas temperature has the same tendency as the Bouduard volume with the exception that the variation individually differs. 2) The relationship between the variation of effluent gas and melting rate is that the melting rate ascends as CO2 declines ; the tendency is being the same as that of CO2 and gas temperature. 3) When the variation of effluent gas is stabilized, the melting rate is also uniform, but to some extent the variation of effluent gas differs in accordance with the nature of the coke utilized. Therefore, the chances are that the melting rate and operational condition difficult to stabilize. 4) The composition of the coke will not show the influence upon effluent gas and melting rate, but the reactivity, combustivity and other factors may be obtained ; consequently, the variation of effluent gas and operational condition may be adjusted, making it possible to evaluate the coke utilized. 5) The combustive conditing of coke can accurately be obtained through the relationship of effluent gas variation arid melting rate. 6) During the normal operation condition of the cupola, effluent gas and melting rate vary as follows : Normalization and stabilization of various conditions in the furnace are made when blowing commences, which will decrease the CO2 in the effluent gas and gradually changing at the end of the operation. The gas temperature gradually ascends, which is later stabilized and gradually changing at the later part of the operation, also the melting rate and gas temperature frequently have the same tendency of variation.
