The following fact is generally known; the top gas is the mixture of CO2 and CO gas which is reduced by carbon in the coke while the high temperature combustional gas in the furnace rises to the top and passes through the high temperature coke layer. It cen be thought that the changes in the composition and temperature rely on various conditions in the furnace. The one method to study the various phenomena in the furnace is to measure the variations of the top gases. By obtaining the relations among the variations of the gases, operational conditions, air volume, air pressure and quality and amount of the coke, combution in the furnace and furthermore the operation of the cupola were investigated. In this report, we have measured the CO2 percentage and temperature during its course of operation, have considered the changes and furthermore, the relation between the CO2 percentage and the temperature in the top gases. In this experiment, we found that during the operation of the cupola, a considerable wave in the CO2 and the temperature of the top gas was influenced by the operational condition. The CO2 and the temperature in the top gases change with a fixed tendency. The sign of transformation in general is similar to the tendency of the Boudouard's equilibrium curve. The CO2 percentage in general is very low, that is, around 8% at various time. After one hour of the blast, the range of the change is from about 300 to 600°C, but generally from 400 to 500°C. The temperature against the relative CO2 percentage changes with the quality of the coke, therefore, the influence of the coke's reactivity is present. In the case of considering the changes in the top gas, if the composition and the changes of the temperature are obtained at the same time, we find it very advantageous in considering the influence of the combustional condition.
