Neurons were firstl induced from embryonic stem (ES) cells in 2000. The advantage of embryonic stem cells for transplantation is that a large amount of neurons can be generated from ES cells. Induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells were first established in 2006. Induced PS cells can overcome ethical problems which ES cells have. In this article, we introduce the progress in recent research using ES and iPS cells against stroke.
