This paper describes efficiency and losses that depend on the drive methods for a moving-magnet LOA. The two drive methods investigated for an LOA are sinusoidal current drives and rectangular voltage drives. Efficiency is influenced by higher harmonic components using rectangular voltage drives. The following results are obtained: (1) Maximum efficiency is almost equal regardless of the drive method. (2) The displacement of sinusoidal current drives is small compared with that of rectangular voltage drives. (3) Iron losses in the drive methods are 3.2 W and 4.2 W respectively, at 41.3 W input power, and iron loss influences the higher harmonic components.
