Thermal expansion of α-Mn has been measured at high pressures up to 2.2 GPa in order to examine the relation between the instability of antiferromagnetism and the magnetovolume effect. It is found that TN goes down and the magnitude of spontaneous volume magnetostriction becomes small as pressure increases. The antiferromagnetism of α-Mn is suggested as disappearing below 5 GPa.
