A crystalline bcc-Eu layer was epitaxially grown on a cleaved NaCl substrate. This existed with two domains which have the Eu(110) plane in the [100] or [110] directions oriented to the NaCl(100) [100]. The epitaxial bcc-Eu/Yb superlattice including high temperature Yb phase was prepared on the Eu buffer layer. The bcc structure of Yb metal layer did not transform to an ambient temperature fcc phase, even with thickness up to 1500Å. This is the first demonstration that a bulk crystal film composed of a high temperature metal phase was fabricated using the molecular beam epitaxy method.
