A vicalloy wire made by work-hardening such as twisting has compound layers with different magnetic characteristics. When an external ac magnetic field is applied to a twisted wire in the direction of its axis, a pulse voltage of about 20μsec half width can be observed with more than 2 mV/turn in a search coil wound around the wire. The characterictics of output voltage in compound magnetic wire are described, and the operating principle of magnetic sensitive wire is compared with that of Wiegand wire. The operating range of the wire in a disturbed magnetic field increases with the number of twists.
