The wire explosion technique, which is known to give rise to strong adhesion between sprayed layers and substrates, was applied to the prepartion of magnetostrictive layers for sensors. It has been shown that the Ni and/or Fe-Ni layers sprayed in the form of chevron on stainless steel shafts exhibit soft magnetic properties after annealing and are applicable to the constitution of torque sensors showing very linear torque-output characteristics with almost zero hysteresis in combination with a two-core type multivibrator bridge circuit.
