The psychological factors influencing patients suffering from dizziness and vertigo for more than 3 months were tested by Cornell Medical Index and Self-Rating Questionnaire for Depression. In 33 patients, past histories of head and neck accidents were noted in 21%, peptic ulcers in 15% and hypotension in 15%. A depressive propensity was noted in 30% of the patients, while CMI type III and IV were noted in 58%. Patients with CMI type IV and an SRQ-D score higher than 16 accounted for 21% of the total. These results show that psychological factors may strongly influence patients suffering from dizziness and vertigo for more than 3 months.
