A 6-month-old boy was admitted with a tumor on the right cheek. The tumor was 4×6cm, firm, markedly tender and sugillation of the overlying skin noted. A biopsy specimen showed a benign hemangioendothelioma. The tumor grew rapidly after biopsy with decrease of platelet and fibrinogen, elongation of prothrombin and partial thrombo-plastin time, and increase of fibrin degenerative product in the peripheral blood. The patient was diagnosed as having Kasabach-Merritt syndrome and hemangiomathrombocytopenia syndrome. Radiotherapy combined with steroid therapy was initiated. The tumor was markedly reduced with improvement in the peripheral blood tests. He was discharged in good condition after 5 months and has shown no evidence of recurrence in the last three years.
