上顎癌における組織像と治療法選択の基準について

This study is based on 81 cases of cancer of the maxillary sinus in which adequate histologic sections were available before and following total maxillectomy and salvage operation from 1961 to 1972 at Kyushu University Hospital. The radiosensitivity of the tumor depends on a number of various factors. One of them is the histological type. The histological effectiveness of radiation therapy of the patients having anaplastic carcinoma and well differentiated squamous cell carcinoma was higher than that of the patients having moderate and poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma, and generally it was related to the prognosis. According to the histological appearances, reasonable tumor dose of radiation in the combined treatment with anti-tumor agent might be 4,000-5,000 rads for the present. However, quantitative dose of irradiation and surgical procedure should vary with staging of the tumor, condition of the patient, sort of the anti-tumor agent and the other factors.
