On the Discharge Coefficient of Submerged Outflow of a Gate

In this paper, the discharge coefficient of the submerged outflow of a gate in the two-dimensional flow was obtained experimentally.<BR>The experiment was conducted using a sluice gate of which the lip was sharp-edged.<BR>In case of <I>E</I><SUB>1</SUB>/<I>a</I><2.5 (<I>E</I><SUB>1</SUB>: specific energy of the upstream from the gate, <I>a</I>: opening height of the gate), the accuracy of calculation of the discharge by using the usual discharge coefficient was lower than that of the actual measurement of the discharge. This was caused from the fact that variation of the contracion coefficient (the experimental equation was obtained as Eq.(19)), frictional resistance, energy coeficient and so on were not taken into consideration.<BR>In case of 1.2<<I>E</I><SUB>1</SUB>/<I>a</I><2.5, the experimental equation of the discharge coefficient was obtained as Eq.(20). Using this equation the error of calculation of the discharge was about within ±10%.<BR>In case of <I>E</I><SUB>1</SUB>/<I>a</I>>2. 5, the error of calculation of the discharge was found to be about within ±5%, by using Eq.(6).
