A case of a 10-year-old boy with acute erythroblastopenia caused by parvovirus B-19 infection was reported. He was admitted to our hospital because of purpura and nasal-bleeding. The peripheral WBC count was 2, 700/μl. However, his platelet count was within normal range and the level of PA-IgG was 26.7 ng/107 cells. Bone marrow aspirate showed slight hypoplasia with prominent erythroblastopenia and a few giant-erythroblast. He did not complain of any signs and symptoms of anemia without special treatment. Bone marrow aspirate on 13th hospital day, revealed normoplasia, and the percentage of erythroblast was 17.7%. It was concluded that the present case of acute erythroblastopenia was induced by the parvovirus B-19 infection, because of the increased titers of antibodies against parvovirus B-19 in both IgG and IgM class.
