Starting from the as cast state, changes in absolute resistivity during solutionizing and aging treatments were investigated. Precipitation and dissolution of β phase with isochronal treatment and dissolution process of grain boundary β phase (G. B. β) with the isothermal solution treatment were clearly detected by the resistivity change. These were also confirmed by changes in hardness and optical microstructures. Even in the as cast state, precipitates of the G. B. β and nodules, lamellar products of grain boundary reaction, had already existed. At 673K, the nodule easily dissolved within 3.6ks, but the G. B. β required 360ks to dissolve. Age-hardening at 473K of the specimen with the completely dissolved G. B. β was superior to that of the partially dissolved specimen. The resistivity saturated by the 473K aging was slightly higher than the estimated value from the equilibrium solubility of Al, determined by extrapolating the solubility on an Arrhenius plot. This was explained by the fact that the large amount of precipitates affected the measured resistivity.
