In the case of Air-C2H2 flame, the maximum amounts of aluminum which can coexist is 100 times of magnesium by addition of 0.005mass% carbon black (CB) and a liner relation highly dependent on magnesium content is obtained. But in the case of calsium, there are minimum and maximum in the absorption curves and the interference of coexisting aluminum can not be eliminated by CB. In the cases of strontium and barium, the interference of coexisting aluminum can not be eliminated by CB, either. The removal action by CB addition corresponds to the enhancing effect by CB. On the other hand, in the case of N2O-C2H2 flame, addition of CB can remove the influence of aluminum on calcium absorption and high sensitive absorption curve is obtained. A practical application of the present investigation to analysis of magnesium content in an Al-Mg alloy was done with a satisfactory result.
