Laser dye thermal transfer printing method provides high resolution because of the high converging property of the laser beam. In this paper, resolution performance of this printing method was evaluated, quantitatively, and the maximum resolution was found to be 10160 dpi. This value was cofirmed by the printed microcharacters. Furthermore, the possibility of continuous-tone printing at a high resolution was indicated, and we have obtained continuous-tone image samples having a resolution over 3000 dpi.
