The experiments were conducted to study how short dark periods a day affects on ruminating behavior and eating behavior of 5 goats. Lighting schedules of a day were 2 hours dark (2D) : 22 hours light (22L), 3D: 21L and 4D: 20L in three experiments.
In the 2 D experiment, ruminating time was less during the dark period than the light period and 4D of 4D experiment significantly (p<0.05), but eating time was more in the dark period than the light period.
In 3D and 4D experiments, too, the ruminating time less during the dark period than the light period (P<0.05), and eating time also followed the same pattern.
As mentioned above, results of those three experiments suggest that the short dark period play a role of controlling the circadian changes of ruminating bahaviors.
