Concentration, speciation and source estimation of Cr, Mo and Sb in water samples from Tamagawa River and its tributaries were studied 7 times from August 1993 to December 1996. The concentration of most species of these elements increased from upstream to downstream. Analytical results indicate that Cr was almost equally present in the dissolved and particulate phases, and that Mo and Sb were mainly present in the dissolved phase (≥90%) in all cases. As to their dissolved species, Cr (VI) level was similar or slightly higher than Cr (III) level, while the major percent (≥90%) of Mo and Sb were found as Mo (VI) and Sb (V), respectively. Major part of the increase of these elements as well as other major components between the points M5 (Haijima) to M6 (Sekido) were found to be attributable to the discharge of wastewater treatment plants (WTPs) and Asakawa River (T3) .
