Adsorption and degradation of butyltin compounds in soil were studied, and the following were clarified.<BR>1) Adsorption of butyltin compounds to soil was expressed by Freundlich equation. Water-soil partition coefficient of TBTO was 3.4×103.<BR>2) Adsorption of pesticides used in golf course was studied under the same condition as butyltin compounds. Water-soil partition coefficient of TBTO was larger than those of pesticides, indicating that TBTO is adsorbed to soil more strongly than pesticides.<BR>3) Concentrations of TBTO and DBTC in contaminated soil were measured for about 1 year. Half-life of TBTO in soil was about 180 days, while concentration of dibutyltin compound, a degradation product of TBTO, decreased only slightly. Dibutyltin compound may decompose but be supplied by debutylation of TBTO.
