Survey studies on the concentrations of major to trace components (Na<SUP>+</SUP>, K<SUP>+</SUP>, Ca<SUP>2+</SUP>, Mg<SUP>2+</SUP>, Cl<SUP>-</SUP>, NO<SUB>3</SUB><SUP>-</SUP>, HCO<SUB>3</SUB><SUP>-</SUP>, SO<SUB>4</SUB><SUP>2-</SUP> As, Cd, Pb, Ni, Mo, Sb, Al, V, Zn and Rb) were carried out in Sagami river and its tributaries for four months at 43 points. Water system of Sagami river was classified by hexa-diagram and radar-graph that represented the concentration of dissolved components in river water of each area. We made flow charts in which hexa-diagrams and radar-graphs were arranged along the water flow so that the changes of water quality can be visually recognized.<BR>Water system of Sagami river was classified into 16 areas. The influences of tributaries onto Sagami river main stream can more clearly be seen by the trace elements better than major components. This is because concentration differences of the trace elements between main stream and tributaries are, in many cases, considerably large.
