The present investigation was undertaken in order to identify organic compounds and to determine their levels in a river water. The concentrations of the compounds in the sample were analysed by capillary gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS) after dichloromethane extraction and florisil column chromatography.<BR>In June, the level of concentration of agrochemicals for rice paddies was slightly above 1 μg/L and the total concentration of other agrochemicals and their degradation compounds was estimated to be about 0.2 μg/L. The concentration appeared to reach its maximum, several to several tens of μg/L in early July. Organophosphate triesters were detected at several ng/L to several tens ng/L, naphthalene at several ng/L to several tens ng/L, and cholesterol at several μg/L.
