Rapid Clean-up Procedure for the Analysis of PCDD/Fs and DL-PCBs using Copper Phthalocyanine Bound Silica Gel

The rapid clean-up procedure for the analysis of PCDD/Fs and Dioxin-like PCBs (DL-PCBs) using copper phthalocyanine bound silica gel column (CuPc column) was established. Mono-<I>ortho</I>PCBs with non-planar chemical structures were eluted with 15 m<I>l</I>of hexane but PCDD/Fs and non-<I>ortho</I>PCBs as target compounds were not eluted with 100 m<I>l</I>of hexane. However, PCDD/Fs and non-<I>ortho</I>PCBs were eluted only with 5 ml of toluene. Consecutively, we developed a new clean-up procedure fractionate sequentially by CuPc column after clean-up by sulfuric acid immersed diatomite column and simplified multilayer silica gel column. The repeatability by the new method was less than 10 %, and obtained data between this method and an official standard method of "Manual for the Survey and Measurement of Dioxins in Soil" were almost same. This method was confirmed as an effective and rapid clean-up procedure for the analysis of PCDD/Fs and DL PCBs in soil sample.
