<I>The concentrations of</I> 99mTc, 123I, 67Ga, 201Tl, 111In <I>and</I> 131I <I>of the discharged water and the sewage sludge of Kurume Central Sewage Treatment Plant at Kurume City in Fukuoka Prefecture were determined from June to November 2000. The radiopharmaceutical doses injected to the patients for four hospitals in the service area were also surveyed. Approximately 1.1% of the injected doses for</I> 99mTc, <I>1.5% for</I> 123I, <I>4.3 % for</I> 67Ga <I>and 0.4% for</I> 201Tl <I>were detected in the discharged water of the plant. The concentrations of these nuclides correspond to approximately 1/100000 of the legal concentration limits in Japan</I>.<BR>131I <I>was detected in the sewage sludge of the plant but was not detected in the discharged water. The effective half-life of</I> 131I <I>in the sewage sludge was estimated from the successive measurements of the sludge and was about 5.5</I> d.<BR><I>The transport processes of medically used radionuclides in the sewage treatment system were analyzed using a compartmental model. The analyses suggested that the concentrations of their radionuclides in the drain water flowing into the sewage treatment plant were those from 1/10000 to 1/1000 of the legal concentration limits of drain water</I>.
