The immunological and cytological findings on three cases of abdominal Burkitt's lymphoma, which had typical "starry-sky" appearance, were reported. Surface marker analysis with monoclonal antibodies (B1, B4, J5, OKIal, and surface immunogloblin) showed that tumor cells were derived from early B Cell in two of three cases and from pre B Cell or pre-pre B Cell in another case. Cytologically, the former corresponded to FAB L3 and the latter to FAB L2, respectively. Only one case had a typical chromosomal abnormality showing t (8;14). These findings suggest that Burkitt's lymphoma has immunological and cytological heterogeneity.
