For controlling Java corn downy mildew disease caused by Sclerospora maydis (Rac.) Butl., benomyl, IBP (Kitazin P®), thiophanate-methyl, tricyclazole and echlomezol were tested. Among them, only echlomezol was proved to be effective. In glasshouse test, the emulsion form of echlomezol was found to be more effective than the dust form at the same dosage. In field test, the application of either form to soil at the time of seeding at the dosage of 2.4g of active ingredient per m2 showed significant effect on the control. The application of the emulsion form to soil on two occasions, 5 days after seeding (at the time of plant emergence) and 13 days after seeding, enabled to lower the total dosage to 1.2g/m2 (0.6g each time), without observing any decrease in the effect on the control. When 14C-echlomezol was applied to the soil at the time of seeding and also 17 days after seeding, the radio-activity was found to be distributed almost uniformly in all the leaves of the corn plant.
