Stress corrosion behavior of the aged 2017 alloy was electrochemically measured in 1/3M AlCl3 and 1M NaCl solution, corrosion potential is shifted by stress to being considerably noble, which may be attributed to the decrease of anode limiting current density. On the other hand, pitting potential is shifted a little to being less noble. These shifts decrease the potential difference between corrosion and pitting potentials, that is, stress increases the local corrosion susceptibility. Electrochemically the maximum susceptibility of stress corrosion is found in the aged specimen held for 10h, at 180°C. This almost agrees with the evaluation of stress corrosion cracking susceptibility obtained by the constaut strain corrosion test.
