Al-Cu alloys containing Cu 3 to 6% were solidified in a pcrmanent mold φ50mm×250mm under hydraulic pressures up to 3000kgf/cm2. The castings have improved tensile and impact properties in accordance with the pressure applied. The elongation and the impact strength are so improved as 2 or 3 times of those of the gravity castings. The pressure effect is so significant in the alloys containing more of Cu. The tensile fracture shows slant fracture regardless of the pressure applied. Impulsive fractures of the castings particularly solidified under high hydraulic pressure show lateral contraction just under the notch. Fine equiaxed dimples are found both in tensile and impulsive fractures of the alloys solidified under the pressure above 2000kgf/cm2.
