The Effect of Environmental on the Carcass Traits of Berkshire

One thousand, three hundred and sixty barrows and one thousand, three hundred and three gilts were ultrasonically scanned for studying the effects of environmental on their carcass traits as Rib eye area (REA), Subcutaneous fat thickness (SFT), the major and the minor axis of Rib eye.<BR>The gilts had significantly (P<0.01) larger REA and thinner SFT than the barrows at 150 days of age. REA was affected by the effect of scanning season and the least squares mean of REA scanned in spring was largest of those in all season.<BR>REA was correlated (P<0.01) to the major axis (r=0.69) and the minor axis (r=0.62) . The major axis was correlated (P<0.01) to minor axis, but the correlation coefficient was comparatively low (r=0.25) .<BR>The percentage of variation explained that independent variable used REA was 69.1 %. REA was explained with 69.1 % of contribution ratio by use of the major axis and the minor axis of REA in both barrows and gilts at 150 days of age.
