Lung Function for Normal Elderly Men and Women in General Health Examination.

There have been few chances for elderly people to take general health examination. Therefore normal values of lung function test for aged subjects were adopted by extrapolation of normal healthy adult values to the aged side. Recently percentage of elderly people who take general health examination is increasing in Japan. It is necassary to establish standard lung function values separately for aged subjects. On the other hand it should be judged if decline of lung function by aging for aged people is fitted to a simple linear regression. We gathered cases over the age of 60 who satisfied our definition as normal sujests and calculated linear regression lines of forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume per second (FEV<SUB>1, 0</SUB>), FEV<SUB>1, 0</SUB> % and peak flow (PF) rate among various lung function values. And we checked if anual chages of these parameters were fitted to single linear regression especially for cases over the age of 70. We detected a tendency anual chages of FVC, FEV<SUB>1.0</SUB>, FEV<SUB>1.0</SUB> % and peak flow became not clear in proportion as the cases got older.
