A 45-year-old male with depression who developed upper lip cancer visited our clinic. Initially, one cycle of CPE chemotherapy (Cisplatin, Peplomycine, Etoposide) was administered. Thereafter, surgical resection of the upper lip tumor was performed. The diameter of the upper lip defect by the resection of the tumor measured approximately two-fifths of the labial width. However, informed consent to repair the defect using a flap could not be obtained from the patient. Therefore, the defect site was sutured, and irradiation was performed after surgery. In the present case, symptoms such as insomnia and urination disorder associated with depression, impatience, and anxiety due to worsening of depression were frequently observed during treatment. These symptoms were very difficult to manage. There has been no cancer recurrence during the one and a half-year postoperative follow-up period. Furthermore, there were no sequelae such as marked labial deformity or functional disorder in eating, speaking, or opening and closing the mouth. The postoperative course has been satisfactory.
